Geocaching Activities for Middle School Students

Learn all about geocaching. What is it? How does it work? How can it be incorporated into the middle school curriculum? A portion of this workshop will be held outside, where instruction in the use of hand-held GPS units will take place. Participants will use GPS units to complete a sample lesson on geocaching.

In this session we will video conference with CILC and then from them to the Cleveland Museum of Art. From Julia Shildmyer-Heighway we will learn how the Center for Interactive Learning and Collaboration (CILC) assists teachers in finding quality content and resources. Julia will then send us on an exciting field trip to the Cleveland Museum of Art. We will take a tour with museum professionals through The Art of Adornment. In this tour we visit works of art in their collection that feature fashion, hairstyles, jewelry, tattooing, scarification and body modification in various cultures, and also our own culture today. It's great for comparing world cultures.

Study Island’s focus on the Assessment Anchors enables students to improve their performance in all skill areas tested on the PSSA. With the data provide through real-time reporting, the statistics can measure progress, streamline the learning process, identify strengths, weaknesses and deficiencies as they relate to the Pennsylvania Assessment Anchors. With this knowledge, teachers can promptly respond with appropriate intervention and remediation.
